This year CSPA announces an exciting new collaboration with The Young People's
Chorus of New York City.
The Chorus will bring its Cantare Division of 50-60 enchantaing youngsters to
perform a concert at the Association's annual tree lighting celebration.
Cantare is a division of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, one of today’s
finest and most influential youth choruses. Under the direction of Elizabeth Núñez,
Cantare comprises 70 children from 10 to 15. They give 15 to 20 concerts each year,
and this past summer traveled to Powell River in British Columbia to take part in
the International Kathaumixw Choral Festival. Cantare’s program today will include
several songs from the YPC’s new recording Coolside of Yuletide, an exciting new
sound for traditional carols.
The Young People’s Chorus of New York City was founded in 1988 by its Artistic
Director Francisco J. Núñezwith a commitment to diversity and musical excellence,
and today, more than 1100 children of all ethnic, religious, and economic
backgrounds participate annually through the chorus’s core after-school program and
its Satellite program in New York City schools. The YPC is in residence at the 92Y.
