Rules and Regulations

Carl Schurz Park is a New York City Park, governed by the rules of the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.

Park rules and regulations specific to Carl Schurz Park are as follows:

Dogs are not permitted to be off leash at any time in the Park except for the two dog runs, to the west of the John Finley Walk at East 85th Street.

Sports, dogs, and parties of more than five people are prohibited on our passive use ‘Hillside’ and ‘Circle’ lawns, just to the north of the East 86th Street cherry tree mall. Signs are clearly posted.

All areas north of East 86th Street are restricted to quiet relaxation and passive use. The wood-chipped area east of the East 87th Street office and restroom may be used for activities such as Frisbee tossing, softball catch, etc.

Visitors to the Park are requested to carry out of the Park picnic leftovers and trash in order to control garbage buildup and rats
GENERAL INFORMATION

Public restrooms are located in the 84th Street Pergola at the southern end of the Playground and in the Parks office just inside the Park at East 87th Street.

Emergency call boxes are located 1) at the entrance to the Park at East 86th Street on the northeast corner, 2) in the children’s playground and 3) along the John Finley Walk (along the esplanade over the FDR Drive) above the basketball and hockey court, one block north of the East 84th Street entrance to the Park.
